The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) on Tuesday, Sepember 8th, announced it has suspended the import of horses from Malaysia due to an outbreak of equine influenza in horses across the Causeway.
Equine influenza is a highly contagious viral disease in horses, but it does not infect or cause disease in humans, says the AVA.
The AVA said Singapore is free from equine influenza, but it is a “highly contagious” disease that can have devastating effects on the horse industry. As such, it advises members of the public who may have come into contact with horses in Malaysia, such as when taking part in horse riding activities or during farm stays, to avoid visiting horse establishments in Singapore.
