The world’s first dengue vaccine is now approved for use in Singapore but it won’t be available publicly for a few months.
Singapore is the 10th country in the world to approve the vaccine, known as Dengvaxia, which is currently the only available dengue vaccine. It works against all four strains of the virus.
The vaccine is 81 per cent successful in protecting those who had previous dengue infection from getting another infection. But for those who never had dengue before, it offers only a 38 per cent chance of protection against the infection.
The vaccine is approved for individuals aged 12 to 45 in Singapore. It is administered in the form of three injections over 12 months.
We will make an announcement as soon as the vaccine is available in our clinics.
