On 14th Aug 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Mpox outbreak in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Africa a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
There are currently 2 strains: MPXV Clade I and MPXV Clade II with the latter being less infectious. The current upsurge is stemming from MPXV Clade I, it is known to cause more severe disease, hence the cross border spread is concerning.
Globally at time of this post, there has been one exported case of MPXV Clade I detected in Sweden. Singapore and surrounding countries are assessed to be at low risk, due to low travel volume from affected countries, however the public is encouraged to stay vigilant.
