Dr Catherine Phan
Dr Catherine Phan has recently just moved from Australia to Singapore. In Australia she spent time in rural and urban clinics and loves the diversity of General Practice and building long-term relationships with her patients.
Dr Catherine is enjoying discovering Singapore and is settling into the new surroundings. She loves spending time outdoors, travelling, flowers and is a self-diagnosed coffee addict. Dr Catherine will be based in our Holland Village clinic.
What attracted you to the field of general practice?
I had a hard time deciding which speciality to go into at the beginning as I found I liked a bit of everything. I did further training in critical care as I knew I liked the diversity of medicine in Emergency and ICU.
However, it was whilst working in rural Australia that I discovered the sense of community that came with general practice. I was attracted to having the opportunity to build long-term relationships and provide continuity of care to my patients and their families, whilst being exposed to a variety of medicine at the same time.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Being able to be a part of my patient’s journey to get better and achieving their health goals.
What do you do with your time off?
You’d find me catching up with family or friends over coffee or at the flower markets, looking for the perfect bunch.
What is on your lifetime bucket list?
Going on an African Safari. Pandemic please go away!
What has surprised you the most about living in Singapore?
Singapore sized mattresses!
Any parts of Singapore you want to explore?
All of it! But checking out the Botanic Gardens and Mount Faber are on top of the list.
When we are allowed to travel again what are your top three must do Sydney attractions?
- Catch a ferry to Manly beach
- Spend a day exploring trendy Newtown
- Do a coastal walk (Bondi to Coogee or Manly to Spit)
